From the mountains to the sea...
From Dorrigo in the west through Bellingen and on to Urunga and Mylestom in the east, this place we call home is such a great place to visit. The rolling placid countryside of the plateau - the slow easygoing friendly charm of Dorrigo and the great waterfalls close by... The Cafe and Arts culture of Bellingen in its valley filled with lush meadows and cool creeks... The splendour of its literally unspoilt coastline, with family-friendly beaches and activities.
Griffith's lookout - with its views over the shire's mountains and valleys - is about 40 minutes from Promised Land Retreat with Dorrigo just five minutes further. In Dorrigo you'll find a some great eateries, a traditional hotel, Dangar Falls just 5 minutes out of town, well worth a look. Just before Dorrigo is the Rainforest Centre - worth a day trip in itself. With walks through the Forest - suitable for people with all abilities, some harder and more rewarding - like the trek down to Crystal Shower Falls (an easy walk for the young and sprightly; people with younger children prepare for the workout as you carry them back up again :) See the video below for a taste of what it offers.
Urunga, Mylestom, North Beach, Tuckers Rock and little Hamlets on the river - Repton and Raleigh - all have their own charm and all offer something to be explored.
Urunga is a charming little town with a great asset - the boardwalk stretching a kilometre towards the surf. The river on one side and the mangrove lagoon on the other. Take a stroll right out to the ocean. Drive through Repton to get to Tuckers Rock - a "Locals" beach, usually not so great for swimming but great for watching the sunrise. In Raleigh you can follow Yellow Rock Road - a great spot for a cycle or to launch a kayak - through to Urunga. And on the opposite side of the River is North Beach with its Bowling Club and Mylestom, with its River lido and views up river to the mountains beyond - a great spot to watch the sunset.
